Centered around the sketching phase of architectural projects, the studio Dinosaur Junior addresses the issue of the re-densification of rural and peri-urban areas in the Munich metropolitan area. Design is based on case studies, understanding and inclusion in a genealogy of architectural styles of the projects designed.
Söltlstr. 16 is a case study prior to the project Dinosaur Junior. To immerse ourselves in the context of Munich's suburban areas, we had to explore them. Starting with an existing house, we had to choose a reference and design spaces “in the style of”. We selected Soltlstr. 16 and, as a reference, the Landratsamt in Starnberg, built in 1987 by Auer Weber. This modular architecture with a steel and wood structure was quite in line with the genesis of our project.
The outcome of this case study was an opportunity to extend the visible structure on the façade, based on our reference. The steel post-and-beam system clad in wood creates a wireframe structure that frees up a central space for circulation and distributes zenithal light. The façade is clad in sea-green fibre cement panels.
Aesthetically, documents had to reflect the architectural design of the chosen period, in this case the 1990s. Rendering was based on basic modelling software features, with hatched shading and standardised layout.
