The Bachelor's Degree Project Studio La ville des possibles proposes to examine architectural action in a trans-scalar manner, moving from the scale of the building to that of the city and its surrounding area.
The town of Paimbœuf is located on a rocky island at the mouth of the Loire Estuary. Once home to the French Navy's large ships, the town has been in steady decline since the 1970s. Since then, the large hospital has been abandoned and the market square has been gradually transformed into a car park. However, many activities remain or are being created in this urban area not far from Saint-Nazaire.
This project called 3R seeks to recreate a central focus for the town of Paimbœuf. This revitalisation of the centre is based on three main areas. Firstly, the creation of a hub bringing together the main driving forces in Paimbœuf, promoting encounters . There are many such organisations, including music, creative, educational and dance associations, but they are scattered throughout the municipality of Paimbœuf. The hospital building provides an opportunity to bring them together and provide them with high-quality facilities.
The second major focus is the design of ressources for these actors. Our programme is therefore closely linked to the activities of Paimbœuf associations and seeks to improve the public's reception within this hub.
Our project stems from our study of stakeholders, but also of the site itself. This is the basis for the third and final focus area: landmark. Analysis of the site revealed a rich historical heritage within the town. The result is a space that aims to become an integral part of Paimbœuf's identity and, therefore, that of its inhabitants.
