The 7 families of Grand-Lieu

Proposal for a mediation game around the Lac de Grand-Lieu, not selected, 2024

Lac de Grand-Lieu is a Natura 2000 listed wetland to the south-west of Nantes. Because of its shallow depth, its surface area can be doubled by heavy winter rainfall. Close to the Loire Estuary, Lac de Grand-Lieu is home to some 270 species of bird, 19 reptiles and amphibians, 30 fish and more than 50 mammals, all of which are remarkable on an international scale. This large number of species is attracted by the diversity of habitats in this exceptional wetland area, which is made up of marshes, peat bogs, wet meadows, moors, scrubland and garrigue... Unfortunately, in recent years the lake has had to deal with invasive species such as the Louisiana crayfish, the coypu and the primrose willow, reducing the diversity of habitats and therefore the species present.

This spontaneous proposal for a 7-family map game is designed to raise public awareness of the lake's various challenges. There are several families, including landscapes, birds, mammals, crustaceans, seasons and so on. Like little biological fact sheets, cards would serve as a tool for understanding the different components of this wetland.

The drawings would be similar to hand-drawn sketches made directly on site. This type of highly graphic line is fully in line with several other projects I've done previously, including In Vino Veritas, Noir and Inktober 2022.
