First introduction to urban planning, the project studio Under Construction proposes to redevelop the current car park on Place Zola in Nantes, based on a sociological and morphological analysis of the neighbourhood. The project Habiter l’îlot is only part of this re-densification and transformation of this urban gap.

My project consists of 14 dwellings ranging from studio flats to five-bedroom flats and two small commercial spaces. Located in the south-east of the plot, the project is loosely inspired by the allotments in the nearby Jardin de la Fournilière. The centre of the block is crossed by narrow lanes separated by private gardens bordered by hedges. The entrance to the dwellings is marked by the use of these hedges, letterboxes and sheltered thresholds provided by the upper floor or canopies. The sequences are shared by a maximum of two dwellings, reinforcing social proximity.

The transition from public space to more intimate private spaces is marked by the appearance of exposed single-wall bricks. The cladding on the corners and plinths transforms the atmosphere by breaking up the aesthetics of the continuous volumes.
